Meet Don Volonte - Leathercrafter and Business Owner

For 30’ish years, Don worked for some major international brands leading large teams that produced revenue, built new brick and mortar locations and supported field based, customer facing groups.

About five years ago…that all changed. Don decided it was time to stop “working to pursue other’s dreams” and was now ready to chase his own goals! So….MammothMaker.com was born!

Don has worked rigorously to continuously develop artisanal leatherworking techniques and to acquire skills to make a strong selection of leather small goods. Having initially focused on growing basic skills and learning techniques that will help to grow the business’ offerings, MammothMaker.com now offers a bespoke service to create one of a kind wallets, belts, journal covers, laptop sleeves, valet trays and more! In addition, Don has begun to teach and mentor other local leather makers to help continue the growth and awareness of this amazing craft. He’s happy to host a class or develop a series of class sessions to help others as they grow their leather crafting skills!

Originally based in a small studio in NW Portland, Don has been constantly challenging himself to move forward to create fun, useful and high quality items that are worthy of the MammothMaker logo. In March, 2025, MammothMaker opened a new brand….. Portland Belt Company! We are located in the Olympic Mills Building at 107 SE Washington St., #164, Portland 97214. We have triple the space which allows us to have a retail shop and a fantastic amount of room to be creative, build amazing projects and even teach classes.
